Kumarakom

Kumarakom is on the shores of the freshwater Vembanad Lakeand has a large variety of flora and fauna. Arundhati Roy's novel "The Godof Small Things" which won the Booker Prize is set in Ayemenem village,near Kumarakom. Fruit like banana, mango, jackfruit pineapple, etc. grow herein abundance and the place is a lush green covered with paddy fields and coconutgroves. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is the home for many species of local aswell as migratory birds. You could take a short canoe trip in the earlymornings or in the evenings for bird watching. Kettuvallam boats are used forfishing and transporting goods. Overnight is in Kumarakom.
